Introduction
What this control mode does
The Negative Price Wind Control special local control mode switches the selected wind inverters off as long as the purchase price of energy on the site is negative, and lets them produce at their nominal power the rest of the time. At negative purchase prices you are paid to consume energy, so every kWh that is produced costs money; a wind turbine, unlike a solar installation, cannot simply be limited to the self-consumption of the site, so it is stopped completely.
- When the site purchase price is negative, a setpoint of 0 W is sent to all selected inverters.
- Otherwise, a setpoint equal to the nominal power of each inverter is sent, so the inverters produce at full power.
Note
The purchase price used is the price of the site, as configured in the app under the energy cost settings (the day-ahead price with the scale factor, the surcharge and the grid costs applied). See Pricing parameters. The mode needs energy prices to be available; check the energy prices troubleshooting page if the inverters are never switched off.
Note
This mode is also offered for solar inverters, as it works with any production device. For solar installations the "Cost optimization" working mode is usually the better choice: it limits the production to the self-consumption of the site at negative selling prices, instead of switching everything off.
Configuring the special control mode
Wind inverters
Make sure that the wind inverters are added to the SmartgridOne Controller as production devices, and that their nominal power is set correctly in their device settings.
Enabling the special control mode
- Go to the 'Settings' tab of the SmartgridOne Controller's interface and click "Manage special local control modes".
- Click "Start wizard" under "Enable a new special local control mode".
- Choose "Negative Price Wind Control" and click "Next". The mode has no further inputs.
- Select the wind inverters that must be switched off at negative prices, and click "Apply mode to selected devices".
See Special local control modes for the priority towards other signals, and for pausing or removing the mode.
